White Peacock

By kinidaho
I'm not quite sure how to process this bird. In CS4, add clarity to the body and less clarity on the features to give it surreal effect? Any other ideas.

Actually I think your photo, just as it stands, has a slightly surreal effect. Smile

A different effect and mood to the picture could be achieved by increasing contrast, and toning down the brightness, by a combination of levels, curves and the shadows/highlights tool. I've uploaded a mod for you as an example. Hope that helps a bit.

Nice image, nice crop. My mod just brightens and shaprnes the head. Why not try three processes and present it as a tryptych?

Wow, certainly a subject worth photographing, and makes a refreshing change from types of bird we have all seen before!

In terms of the clarity and sharpness, I feel it falls a little awkwardly between the two - I think something as delicate and detailed as this needs to either be quite blurred and dreamy-looking, or as pin-sharp across the image, rather than a mix of the two.

Compositionally, I feel uncomfortable with the slightly off-centred and half-show approach. I would personally have either had the bird's body bang in the horizontal centre or placed it according to the rule of thirds - the position chosen is neither one nor the other.
I also feel it should have been cropped at the base of the bird's body or shown the whole body (legs included) and again, not somewhere in between, for a more "comfortable" image to result. But minor gripes on a great image!! :o)

Its difficult to comment on what surreal means, - as its different to everyone.

Ive loaded what this means to me with this image.

I suggest you experiment with filters, distortions, etc and see what comes out of it.

banehawi - Well, that's surreal.

All, Yes, I'm experimenting with filters, distortion and the like. It is great to get the suggestions everyone has provided. It does show how subjective this can be. Thanks for all the comments.
