Whitsand Bay

By James_C
Thanks to everybody for your c+c and support for my last upload. This next one I took whilst on the beach on a very grey day and decided the best thing to do was drop the saturation to almost nil. I then adjusted the brightness and contrast of the rocks and sky seperately. before having a final play. Not being happy with the proportions of the final image I stretched it a little before posting. Now I'm not so sure so am posting both.

I have added as v3, for those of you who may be interested, the original uneditted photograph.

Do please criticise - it will help me to learn and see things in different ways.

Thanks for looking - I hope you like it.

I like v1. As a suggestion, you could selectively choose the sky and then use a noise suppression filter. This would eliminate the grain (noise) in the sky. I like the mono and the composition very much.

Lovely composition with beautiful tones. I prefer V1.
Thank you fot your cropping suggestion. I also have a portrait format version of the scene, that does what you suggested, but for some reason it looses something.

A lovely image James. I prefer V1, and just by posting the colour version shows how much better it looks for the crop, frame, etc. Lovely presentation.

V1 is a very good picture, It is composed well and the small amount of stretching out from v2 enhances the image.
(I'd never thought of reducing the saturation - it's always been all or nothing for me in the past - thanks for the tip, I may give that a try in the future.)

I do like this in mono but then I love black and white images generally.

I am a big fan of black and white images too, the light and the detail are particularly nice here
