Hello, Diane. Nice curves, perspective and lead-through. Probably a good subject for mono, to accentuate the strong lines, but your image has come out quite flat and devoid of contrast. The railing on the far left is not straight, neither is your horizon, so I used the perspective tool to correct both, then cropped the bottom and right. I felt the metal barrier was quite dominant, so cropping a little from it helps to get the viewer's eye further into the seascape. I then used Curves to add contrast and selectively sharpened the foreground part of the barrier. There aren't any really strong whites, which you do need for a black and white picture, so I used the Dodge Tool on a few areas.

some good points raised above. perhaps a higher viewpoint would show off the curve of the railings better. when taking the pic you really need either good light or a very moody sky. unfortunately this one has alot of grey.
I'm not sure how familiar you are with PS but there are some good tutorials on the site if you need guidance.lesley

A good idea but not a good mon conversion. how are you doing it? straight to B%W or desaturation does not generally give the best range of tones. This needs more contrast to give some impact - it is currently a bit flat.
The channel mixer is the best tool for mono conversion. it allows you to decide how much of each primary channel to use in the final image.
