Winter sleep

By Marioks
I saw this tree while driving today. Thought it could be a decent picture, so I made few shots. I hope it turned out good. Sky was very cloudy.

Hi Marius. Its a nice shot, like that road curving. But the snow is blue. This happens to most people, - its not you!. When taking a shot that mostly white, or mostly snow, you need to dial in +1 in general. You did try +1/3, but its not enough.

Also, try to use an aperture thats one or two below your maximum, 0 for this perhaps f/5.6 or f/8, - you will get better performance from the lens, though you would have had to double the ISO.

I have uploaded a mod, - mainly increased exposure by about 2/3, cropped a little from the top, and added a little to the right to balance.

Your mod looks way better. Suggestions noted.

A lovely composition. I think the cloudy sky makes for a nice backdrop behind the tree. Amazing the difference a little exposure compensation makes!

You were right, Marius, this tree made a great subject.
The snow on the wispy new branches is so delicate, and there is just a hint of colour within the tree bark.
I think you have composed it beautifully, and Willie's very nice modification shows how it can be improved.

Willie co vers it. You do have some jpg compression artifacts in the sky. Like circular banding. Need less compression.
