'Wolf Pack'

By patspeirs
‘Wolf Pack’

As a pack of wolves will pull down the lame or isolated animal so the FW190s home in on a damaged 382nd Sqdn B17. In a well coordinated attack one FW190 half rolls away from a low attack while the others in the section come in, high, left and right. The B17 impressive defensive armament, at least twelve 0.5 machine guns, is thus split and rendered less effective.

As noted in a previous image the 382nd did not lose any aircraft to fighter engagements so I guess this crew made it home, probably ‘bloody but unbowed’.
