Wood anemones

By coelacanth
I have been trying for years to take the definitive photo of Wood Anemones. This isn't it! I find the white washes other colours out, as there can be a bit of subtle pink (particularly un the underside of the petals, or during opening). They are early this tear as I have known them as late as May. However, what this does show is the variation between blooms in shape of the petals and sixe of the flower. Most have six petals, but some have seven and I have even seen eight. While we are trying to do this isolation stuff (nipped in my local woods for exercise, honest) nature is doing its stuff oblivious of us.
