Working the Flower Fields of San Diego

By MaryLee
Spent an afternoon at the Flower Fields of San Diego on a recent trip to the West coast. The tiny seeds were planted in September and the plants begin to bloom in April. Some of the flowers are harvested for sale but the bulk of the plantings are harvested for the bulbs after the flowers have died off. They are Ranunculus flowers which look a bit like multi-petaled poppies.

An amazingly colourful sight but I bet it's awfully hard work.
