World Photography Day

By HobbitDave
Only realised this evening its World Photography Day today.
So am putting up one of the many classic film cameras I have been lucky enough to refurbish and find good homes for over the years, some of them going to the Far East, where there is a wide interest in Classic cameras of all kinds.
I dont do them any more, new adventures now. But always good to see and hopefully use a film camera. This one is a Swiss hand-made Alpa from 1960s with a Switar lens. Certainly equal in quality and operation (and price) to a Leica of the time.

Despite big gun names, some of the best film photos I have seen are with a little Olympus Trip compact, which I am sure many of us will have had in our younger days! Cheap, cheerful, and more than does the business. David Bailey etc. (See pic 2).
Definitely good film photos are dependent on the photographer rather than the camera, despite the seductive allure of expensive gear. But hey, we all love gismos so praise to modern designers for advanced digital cameras and lenses. Its all part of the Great Photography Dance 📸

Apologies, I had to take all punctuation marks out from the above as ipad and EPZ uploading were skewing them into weird symbols ! Especially “inverted commas!”

I happen to know only one owner of Alpa. He was a great photographer too. He sees us all from above the sky now, shooting with his camera, frame after frame. I wave at you my friend, it's been a pleasure.

Proper cameras here! 👍 Though you had to understand your exposure, shutter speeds & f-stops, they didn't have hundreds of options in confusing menus like digital cameras 😬 And I too remember David Bailey advertising the Olympus Trip! In fact, in the current issue of the RPS's Journal there is a feature on him.
Regarding weird symbols, I find if I edit an upload, punctuation marks go funny, and have to correct them before saving.

I don't know about the old cameras much, but I did start with a film camera in early 80's, it was reasonably easier to use than these cameras you have, I guess,..I bet they are superb cameras. I still miss the quality of the film images and the way to handle the film cameras(quite small actually compared with the digital equivalent). I tried fujifilmx 100f, but it is still a digital,..Grin
