Worth the Chase

By Lynniesefforts
My daughter has just moved to Blackheath which is at the top of the Blue Mountains, and I like to stay over....a LOT. The bird life there is amazing, so different from what I get here in the lower mountains. I heard this little guy but I couldn't see him, so I was chasing the whistles for about 10 minutes until I finally spotted him. He is a male Superb Fairy Wren. The other 2 pics are of his bride.. She looks so different and very pretty, a little fluff ball. One is of her in the rain, waiting patiently for him to show up.

Thank you for all comments and clicks on my last upload of the Freesia..GrinGrin

Have a wonderful day Grin

Superb Fairy-wrens occupy wide range of habitat types, and are found in almost any area that has at least a little dense undergrowth to shelter in, including grasslands with scattered shrubs, moderately thick forest, woodland, heaths, and domestic gardens. Photos taken through next doors wire fence.

]Like all fairy-wrens, the Superb Fairy-wren is an active and restless feeder, particularly on open ground near shelter, but also through the lower foliage. Movement is a series of jaunty hops and bounces assisted by the huge tail, which is usually held upright, and rarely still. The diet is a wide range of small creatures, mostly insects, supplemented by small quantities of seeds, flowers, and fruit.

Females, immatures, and non-breeding males are a plain fawn colour, lighter underneath, with the tail fawn (females and immatures) or dull greyish blue (males). Breeding males, however, take on rich blue tones around the head, chest and back.

Three great captures. Very interesting commentary. Cool that the breeding male changes color. Kind of struts his stuff. He is a guy.
