Wot? ... Me?

By Ericsamson
A statue of the infant musical prodigy Gerald Guff who, in his adult life, galvanised the wind section of many an orchestra. Here he is seen displaying the insouciance for which he became so famous. This particular piece represents his early Purple Ronnie* phase and hints at the ‘he who dealt it smelled it’ philosophy which came to define both his life and his fa … art.

I refer the reader to Purple Ronnie’s encomium on the art of maintaining politeness in the face of crippling social embarrassment:

If your bottom burps in public
Try to say in time,
“Goodness gracious! What a whiff!
It doesn’t smell like mine.”

I hope this provides some reassurance and comfort for any who find themselves similarly afflicted. (Wot? ... Me?)

My thanks for the very kind responses to yesterday's upload and to David (imageryonly) for his much appreciated UA. Always a joy! 😀

Moreover, my apologies for once again taking liberties with a rather fine memorial tomb in Sherborne Abbey. ('The long dark teatime of the soul' posted a little while back features another detail from this large and elaborate structure. The whole to be featured in next week's Sily Sunday ....... if I remember! 🥴🥴🥴 )

Thank you, once more Sir G, for the smile upon my face!Smile

Do you think that anything carved larger than an acorn used to snap off? Just a thought. Wink

Graham I think you're taking serious sculpture far too lightly!

I once tried to impress a girl on a first date with my clever word play. I ran ten glorious puns past her in the hope that some would win her favour ...
But no pun in ten did 😏🙄

Nice photo by the way

Colin 😊

Butter wouldn't melt. In his mouth, or anywhere else...

Surely a relative of the Manneken Pis?
Mrs Trellis (of North Wales) is the best point of reference . . .

Have a very Silly Sunday 😁🤣😅😆😉

Must remember that little rhyme next time I'm shopping for groceries... 😁 Reminds me of that sculpture in Brussels I saw back in 2016, where a certain part of his anatomy is a fountain... 😃👍🏻

I am reminded of the time Guff was attending a rather posh dinner in some grand country mansion. Underways, he just had to let one rip, and as it was far from silent, turned to the footman standing behind him, and said sternly, in an attempt to put the blame on the servant, "Kindly stop that, my good man!" "Certainly, Sir, did you happen to see which way it went?" replied the footman...

Reminds me of a greetings card I saw in W H Smiths many years ago. It showed a Victorian scene of a melodramatic nature. It portrayed one distressed lady; one distressed, terrified and cowering gentleman (his top hat in the gutter and his cape awry) and towering over him a Flashman sort of cove brandishing a cane or sword stick. Incontinent with fury he was bellowing, "How dare you fart before my wife!" The cowering gentlemen, pleading for mercy, declares, "I'm sorry! I didn't know it was her turn!"
I've never seen it since and I regret not buying it. The sheer waste! 🤣
