I'd never seen/heard of it either ( more details here ). It must have been brilliant to actually be able to photograph one. A brilliant photograph it is too!

(What I'd like to know is 'How do they know only 280 pass by the UK?')

Karen, i've seen many over the years but only managed record shots until now ...
Essex, kent and Sussex is where i've seen them in previous years ..
Not quite sure how they say 280 either must be a guessimate..

Nice one, I saw one a couple of weeks ago.................but I was in Romania at the time so my odds were a little better than yours I guess!! Didn't manage to get a shot though......... although I have a fine picture of a bush!!
