Xmas Tin 1914

By Wireworkzzz
This is something left by my grandfather. I assume it has something to do with the first wold war as my grandfather was a soldier. Inside it he had some bullet casings, wax matches and a few other things which he may have kept as mementos of the war. There were also a couple of poems handwritten by soldiers (quite upsetting to read). I would like know if anyone has any ideas what the tins original purpose was.

It was a gift from the then Queen Mary - some tins had chocolate and some had cigarettes.
Millions of them were given to the troops.
They are popular auction fodder now.

Nicely portrayed here.
