Ye Olde Tunnock's Van.

By Tooma
Teacakes, anyone ? Caramel Log or a Wafer? My favourite in their shoppe in Main Street, Uddingston, when I went to school there, was - the absolutely fabulous Rock Cake - and a Bridie - of course. I was in the shop a few months ago, and asked for a Rock Cake - they had no idea what I was talking about - and a couple of the ladies serving were no chickens - what does that say to me? - they have poor memories.

Of course the keen eyed amongst you will have noticed this van is not vintage; It's produced by a French company, whose name I forget, and I'm too tired to look it up, cos it's late, and I still have Versions to upload, and I want my bed. Note the very French mascot.

Something else for the keen eyed peeps peepers - one of my shots has a double exposure - can you spot it?

Great set Tom. Thought it was a bit pristine for a restoration, but your lead image gives it a great feeling of the time.

Now there indeed is a van worth hijacking! I'm a caramel wafer Tunnock taker myself.Grin Didn't know they had their own shop....somewhere to make a pilgimage to when circumstance permits!

Well done Tom - you've made dear old Bertie's day! (Jeeves tells me that he has a modest stock pile of these sweet comestibles!)
A grand set of images and very comforting.
Take care, G.
PS Many thanks for your last UA - will message. 👍 😀

@Ericsamson - "(Jeeves tells me that he has a modest stock pile of these sweet comestibles!)" Just as The Good Book says, G, "moderation in all things" - panic buyers and hoarders take note. Now leave my whisky alone.

@bluesandtwos - ".somewhere to make a pilgrimage to when circumstance permits!" - Tunnock's original wee shop is still in its original spot on Main Street, Uddingston, just west of the cross, Dave, but sadly, they closed the upstairs tea-room a few years ago; I never found out why. Must remember to ask the next time I visit. It was always very popular when I lived in the area, especially with the ladies who do tea.
Tea and Tunnock's goodies in Tunnock's Tea Room - does it get any better than that! I hope they re-open it - it were too dear for me as a school-boy to experience on my pocket money, especially when I was always saving up for my next Corgi model or Airfix Kit from RS McColls just down the road a bit. Smile

Does it get any better you ask...emphatically no, it couldn't possibly!Smile I too, used to save my meagre shekels for the odd corgi toy (oh if only I had kept my James Bond Aston Martin with its pop up bullet proof rear screen and working ejector seat.Sad)
Are airfix kits, the smaller ones in the polythene bags sealed at the top with a folded over piece of carboard depicting the enclosed model in full flight, and containing that most unusual squidgy rubbery thing with the glue, still 2/-? Probably not.Sad

Younger viewers confused about the 2/-, consult your nearest wrinkly person, we may smell a little musty at times but we have a wealth of knowledge....if only we could just remember it!Grin

Dave aka Bertie aka all sorts of things

Ps Rumours of a Tunnock stash at Bertie Mansions are false ( I've eaten them all!)

Go to the dark side, Ian, allow it to seduce you. It is surprisingly delicious with the dark chocolate. Wink
