Yesterday at Belsay

By mrswoolybill
The Quarry Garden at Belsay Hall yesterday. I don't photograph flowers very often (apart from during our town's hectic In Bloom week). I do see foxgloves as an interesting challenge, the stems are so long and the flowers so regular; but this is the first time I have tried them this year, and I left it until they were well and truly on their way out.
Two variations on the same theme...
Thanks for looking,
Moira

It's just one original frame. And it does include a lot of rock... Tongue

The bent stem makes the composition, I prefer the square crop because the flowers are bigger!
These foxgloves seem to be still well on their way in, plenty of blooms and buds caught at the right time.

Foxgloves can be tricky as the flowers come out over a period of time up the stem, but you've got them just about right and the curved stem gives twist (no pun intened Smile).

Always good to do something different Moira.
Lovely curve to this tricky flower, I prefer the lead as I can see the complete flower stems behind.
Good choice of aperture, enough to blur the bg but keep the main stem in focus.

I agree totally with dark_lord's comment in that so often the bottom florets are withered before the upper ones open. You have captured these foxgloves at their very best and I do rather like the curved posture of the main player.

They are very photogenic wildflowers, aren't they? A very lovely capture, Moira, I like how the main one bends around and upwards 😀 Think I go for the squarer format of the version as my fave 👍

Every few days I do flowers or birds, which is not really my thing. But whatever get in front of me these days. Great job with the foxgloves. Square I think.

I like the curve of the flower captured, as normally, it is a straight up and down format. This gives more separation of the bell-heads and you can see their shape better.
