Lake Nakuru in Kenya's Rift valley was one of the natural wonders of the world. Viewed from the heights the lake had a pink ring around it. There were hundreds of thousands of flamingos feeding in its shallows. Although all the Rift Valley Lakes have always risen and fallen from year to year the downpours eight years ago caused the levels to rise so much that the flamingos could no longer feed there and they disappeared. There were hopes earlier this year that some birds were returning but once again flooding has hit the lakes including, this time, Baringo and Bogoria.
