It looks as if it could be an additional limb that's withered. Do hope it's not a foreign body that could cause infection (and pain Sad). Lovely images, Sandy - I would never have realised this was a Robin!

I had this large on my screen Sandy,and checked it with a ''web glass''.A web glass is what we used to check steel at work for any flaws or cracks in it.Basically a magnifying glass of sorts.Anyway,it appears it is a piece of metal in the bird.It has a little hole in one end and it looks to me like some sort of ''hook'' that is stuck into the bird !! It also looks that it is not that deep in the bird,and the chances are it will not feel it !!

Poor little bird. So this is what a young robin looks like? Funny - he looks bigger and very slim in comparison to the adult ones. Never seen one, so thanks for showing us this interesting bird. sorry for the hook,
