    Choosing a system

A day won’t go by on the forums without somebody posing a “What camera should I buy” question. People easily get caught up with different models when choosing a camera. By and large, cameras at similar price points have equally similar specificati...

    Camera and lens data

I remember when I started on my photographic journey, slavishly reading books, magazines and brochures and noticing strange little numbers and letters under some of the fabulous images before me. You’ve probably seen them yourself. 1/250 @ f8 or 1/60...

    Size matters!

“You can forget taking that with you. This is a family day out!” The tone of her voice indicated that the impending trip to a wildlife park was to be enjoyed for the sake of it, rather than as a photographic expedition, as she looked towards my ca...

    Lens re-coating

Don't know if such a service even exists. Some how I have scuffed the rear lens element on my Sigma 10-20mm zoom. Tried a lens cleaning cloth and it didn't shift. Any one know of such a service? Can't imagine it would be cheap. Regards Jeremy

    Armed and Dangerous!

As of today, my wife is armed with an ultra wide angle lens. She can now capture just as much of the world in one shot as I. Just as well, because on our last holiday she took more Derwentwater shots with my Sigma 10-20 than I did, I think. Add...

    D700, part two!

Well I've had one for a little over a week now. Did I say I didn't want one? Well, this one belongs to Nikon and they're going to want it back soon. :( My comments about the crop factor are still, IMHO, valid for my kind of photography, but the fac...

    The Joys of eBay

I don't mean that in a sarcastic way. Truth is, I love eBay. Yes, I know. There are plenty of pitfalls to avoid when you purchase used goods, and even some pitfalls peculiar to eBay, but I still like it a lot. Mainly because it allows me to get ki...

    No 10mm Prime?

Most serious photographers, both professionals and enthusiastic amateurs, would agree that using a prime lens often has advantages over using a zoom. Although there are exceptions, many prime lenses beat their zoom counterparts in quality, and many a...
