conradI used to go to the historic Dutch city of Breda often, but things have changed and I seldom have to go there anymore. Recently a work assignment brought me to the area, though, and when I went into the city centre to find a bite to eat, I was struck again by the beauty of this church. I only ha...

Arty Windmill

conradA few days ago, I took this iPhone image of a Dutch windmill in passing. Except for a relatively interesting sky it didn't have much going for it, so I started playing around with it in different apps. After taking it through about three apps, this was the result:

Typical for Amsterdam

conradEvery major city probably has flower stalls, but those in Amsterdam are different, because you can buy more than cut flowers there. They cater for more than just the local public that wants to take flowers home and put them in a vase. After all, Amsterdam is the most popular tourist destination in t...

Three Versions

conradSome time ago I took a quick grab shot with my iPhone of a windmill I passed in a part of my country that I don't often visit. I had a play with the image in a few apps, and I thought I'd show you how very different some of the results were. Below you will see, respectively, a Snapseed version a...

conradThe Netherlands is "one of the world's most densely populated nations". And that has its consequences. One of them is that open spaces without any obstructions or eyesores are rare. And that you rarely get an unobstructed view of points of interest in our landscapes, be it urban landsca...

Grab Sunset

conradThe idea I had today to visit a few locations I don't usually pass on my way home and take some photos didn't work out due to traffic queues I really wanted to avoid. So instead of a picturesque route I followed one that didn't have one thing I wanted to photograph. Finally the light went, and su...

One More

conradYou can never have enough windmill photos, that's my motto. So when I knew I was going to visit someone in the middle of the day today in a part of the country I don't visit too often, a part that happens to be full of nice windmills, I knew it was the perfect opportunity to use the return journe...

One Less

conradIt's a sad week for those who love (Dutch) windmills, which includes me. Youths in Burum (Friesland, a northern province of the Netherlands) decided to burn a stack of Bibles (which is a deed which should raise concern anyway, but it gets worse...), and sparks from the fire set the nearby 200 ye...

Singled Out

conradVariation on the theme of today's upload to the Gallery. I keep looking at my shots from yesterday, because it was such a wonderfully sunny day, and today is such a dark, dreary and rainy day. In this shot I've singled out a daffodil and concentrated on it, with the windmill just a background blu...

Couldn't Resist

conradI've had a very busy two weeks, especially the last week - and the weekend was crazy busy. Fifteen, sixteen hour workdays, in bed by 2:00 A.M. Exhausting, and no time to myself. But yesterday when I was rushing about to get everything in my crazy schedule done, and just before leaving the apartme...

conradAfter a grey sky on Saturday, the blue skies and white clouds yesterday were quite welcome, and motivated a visit to the moors. This was taken on the moors near Ede, The Netherlands.

One More

conradHi, I'm Conrad, and I'm a windmill addict. I've been sober for two days, but now I just have to upload another windmill shot. Sorry, but I can't help myself. So ... here's another one, processed with Snapseed:

Completely Cloudless

conradWe seem to be having a patch of unusual weather on this side of the North Sea - several sunny days with completely cloudless skies. I have several kinds of shots in mind that I want to take, but not with these skies, so I'll have to wait. It's starting to remind me of that ridiculously sunny week...

Close to Home

conrad"How do you take a great landscape photo?" I've read and heard many different answers to this question, but there are a few common denominators among the many different suggestions. One that really makes sense, is that it helps to have good light at a location that you want to shoo...
