Barga lies in the Serchio Valley of the Garfagnana in Tuscany. It the little hill town with a medieval centre where many Italians emigrated from in the late 1800's/early 1900's ...... many of them settling in Scotland.
It is surrounded by some spectacular, heavily wooded mountains which makes the scenery very lush and green in the summer months and gives the photographer unlimited scope for a different kind of Tuscan scenic photography. In winter it is like a Christmas card scene ... surrounded by little hilltop villages such as Sommocolonia and Tiglio Alto which offer magnificent eagle eye views of the valleys below them. Lots of wonderful medieval achitecture can be found in the old centres and in their churches.
A real "all seasons" photographic opportunity.
