BART ALDRICHUnited States United States

Bart grew up in southern California. After living in Hawaii for 15 years he moved to Hong Kong in 1992.

It was during the four years that he lived in Hong Kong and visited more than a dozen south-east Asian countries that he rekindled his passion for photography and honed his eye for the heart of a location.

Bart explored ancient ruins, ran river rapids, elephant trekked through hill-tribe villages and experienced walks along streets in remote villages in Yunnan (China), Tibet, Laos, Thailand and Myanmar where local children, unaccustomed to foreign faces, gaped in awe, even ran away crying.

In his travel days he flew out of dirt landing strips with thatched roof huts for a terminal on questionable looking Russian and Chinese aircraft, was tossed out of a raft while running rapids, choked on trail dust and traffic pollution from Bangkok to Rajasthan, and ate meals with unidentified meats and moving critters in them.

The idyllic beaches of Bali and southern Thailand aside, his journeys were not always cosy and comfy. But the vibrancy of each experience had a pay-off in the warmth of many smiles and the generosity of spirit from all the wonderful people he met along the way. And of course in the images he brought back.

The time in Asia were his Fujichrome days. Bart has since gone digital and in 2003 he also relocated to the scenic desert near Palm Springs California. Here he exhibits his work in 10-15 outdoor art shows a year and is within reach of a myriad of scenic locales around California and the great South west.

What stimulates Bart's eye and gets his camera whirring has spanned a wide palette from travelling Vietnam's length by train, India's Samm desert by camel, to great architecture and California's glorious Highway 1 through Big Sur and the rugged eastern Sierras region of Highway 395.

Today, in addition to landscapes and nature, Bart explores aspects of his own acrylic paintings on canvas for nuances of inspiration to create what he calls 'photo-painting'. Don't miss this dynamic new addition to his portfolio.
