Thanks Steve what sort of settings were you using That was shot on a D90, 35mm at f/11 ISO 800 with, I think, either 1/4 or 1/8 power flash from a Nissin Di622. I've not been able to find any authoritative source the warns against using flash. Nature comes up with her own powerful flashes, after all, and this bat did not seem to be at all put out or disturbed in any way.

Am getting quite excited now lol. I did actually ask the Bat lady...at the Bats Cons. etc about rabies etc, apparently rabies has only been found in 1 species of bat in the whole of the UK, and 'luckily' it is not one that roosts in houses. One less thing to worry about then. Debs........a bit worrying about them trying to roost under my brolly, does that mean I would become a surrogate bat...

Just as an addendum to this. Bats carry Rabes. If you do have to handle one make sure you wear leather gloves to avoid the risk of being bitten.

Maslow's hierarchy of needs is a theory in psychology proposed by Abraham Maslow in his 1943 paper "A Theory of Human Motivation" in Psychological Review. More detail here : wikipedia Esteem = clicks as far as some are concerned. 'Nuff said! ;)

Cheers Ken Thanks for the link It could well an interaction between moths and the trail camera I am pretty sure its not bats or birds, birds have been caught at night without issue, but moths would move more slowly Moths are active and present because they are monitored on a nightly basis on the reserve It's quite spooky watching it in real time though

Tonemapped HDR with the quart forced into a pint pot creating a world without shadows makes me want to put a gun to my eyes Or even better, to the eyes of the person who did the tone map in the 1st place? (Assuming it wasn't you).

I've invested in a Kata mid-size backpack which carries a lot of kit but also is quite versatile in terms of how you carry it (it can be reconfigured to work as a sling backpack etc, etc) good bit of kit which I bought to replace a Lowepro Stealth because it just wasn't versatile enough for me.

That's about where I ended up, but with a common White rather a nice Marbled For such an apparently slow subject these need very fast shutter speed, this was at 1/1000th sec and there is massive blur on the butterfly
