My Project 365 - 5

Bit of an odd subject today, a Russia Army Cap badge, circa 1967.

A little while back my father gave me this badge, along with his medals and my grandfathers medals. All of which i find interesting, but the little cap badge, which is maybe no more than 10mm wide, has always fascinated me.

The story of this badge is a simple one, in 1967, when my father was still in the army, travelling the Berlin Autobahn, he came to a Russian controlled checkpoint at a place called Helmstedt, where a simple exchange of souvenirs was made between two soldiers. The Russian obviously parted with his badge, but what did my father give in exchange?... A parker pen.

And now 47 years on i wonder who the Russian was, where is he now? and more importantly does he still have that Parker pen? I also wonder how much trouble he got into for losing his Badge?

Anyway here it is, processed differently to my normal style, mainly because i was struggling to get the badge sharp, maybe i should invest in a macro lens at some point.
