Hammer and Sickle

By 213hardy
This is a Russsian Cap badge, circa 1967. It came to a few years ago when father was sorting out stuff from his Army days.

He got it from a Russian Soldier, at the Russian Controlled checkpoint at Helmstadt, Germany. And the price he paid for this souvenir? A Parker pen.

And now 47 years on i wonder who the Russian was, where is he now? and more importantly does he still have that Parker pen? I also wonder how much trouble he got into for losing his Badge?

I have tried to photograph this before, i wasn't to impressed with the result although it did make it into My Project 365. Think this is a vast improvement. And this shot seems to symbolise Russia's ever increasing isolation on the world stage.

All C&Cs welcome

Thanks for looking

A great blast from the past. The Cold War days I remember them well when I would work in Berlin doing my bit for Queen and Country

These things carry history. If ever you get the chance to see photographer Martin Parr's collection of 20th Century political ephemera, do so. Echoes of regimes past, from Mao to Thatcher.

A symbolic image, Den - an interesting write up, too.
