New Year's Eve in Gibraltar ...

By abel
Don't try this at home, kids!

New Year's Eve is THE firework night in Gibraltar. Not just organised displays, either - almost every household spends a small fortune on boxes and boxes that they fire from their balconies or the roofs of their buildings. Last night there was a 45-minute spell of continuous light and explosions from every direction - almost like being in "Saving Private Ryan" ...

What makes it all the more amazing is that fireworks are technically illegal here!

From the thumbnail I thought it was a picture of a man holding some kind of light-sabre! A great capture!

I had exactly the same interpretation as Anna (argh22). The thumbnail really looks like light sabre.

I thought Star Wars too.

many moons ago I was in Portugal and it was the same, for about 2hrs at New year, it was like something from D-Day. !!

Great image, again thought as above with the light sabre in the thumbnail. And when I opened it its quite a menacing image isn't it, an elderly gent holding a harmful weapon. Great captivating image.

Thanks all - now I've read the light-sabre comment I can't stop seeing that :O)

Funnily enough, the guy holding the firework is one of the mildest mannered people you will ever know!
