Iceberg off Newfoundland

By accystan
I'd always wanted to see an iceberg. We circled around it at a distance of about 50 - 100m - they can roll unexpectedly. This one would have been about the size of a house.

They're quite awe inspiring, magical really. The colour is natural; I haven't added any blue into the pic. The amazing thing is that it was a gloomy, grey day. The whiteness comes from the air bubbles trapped in the original snow that fell. The rich blue streaks are where a stream of meltwater would have run.

And that's all I know, or was told that day, about icebergs.

The blue colour is amazing. Never seen an iceberg for real but this is a fantastic capture (and a day you'll not forget in a hurry I'll bet).

Nice image. I was told that the blue in an iceberg was an indication of its age.

It's more like the size of 10 story building on it's size. Phenomenal.

Thanks for commenting Simon. It was also cold in a semi-open boat taking the pics. Hard to believe it was a June day. One of the other tourists on board was from Preston - small world and me in my Accrington Stanley jacket....
