Forget the verticals, this doesn't need correcting at all ... you're looking up aren't you and the eye doesn't see in straight verticals, so stuff the purists.

HDR has handled that water bloody well mate, and the detail through the rest of the shot is there for all to see, another fine example ... looks like all your firsts have paid off in spades.

One of the more realistic HDR shots, nice work. Like a cathedral to shopping.

I can live with the convergings. Just got a Sigma 10-20mm which rates as totally insane.

Absolutely perfect. Brilliant.
13 Feb 2007 11:28PM
Excellent shot Ade. I've had the 17-40 lens for some time and it is on my camera much more than the 24-105. It is super sharp and no vignetting at the 17mm end.

cheers everyone - took a fair bit of piddling around in Photomatrix, but finally got it how I wanted it

In a way, you're best chucking away most of the HDR effect and letting the dark bits go darker, otherwise it looks like a cartoon.

so get that black slider over to the right!

This photo gave me a bit of a headache... sorry not the photo itself, but to explain about censor cropping to someone who hasnt got a clue...

This is an amazing photo, I have the same lense but on a 350d so I loose the wide angle Sad (thats what I was trying to explain)

anyway I love the HDR photos, I must try this way of developing, do you have any tips?

Once again this photo and many like it are amazing, keep em comming

Cheers folks

I'm sure you'll do a lovely job Mr Latimer - I was suffereing from an urgent need to go to the loo when I took this one so wasn't concentrating fully.

Tips for a HDR?

well I've started taken 5 shots of each scene so that I can do batch processing. Each shot is 2 stops apart.

then it's just a case of meddling or piddling, the preference is yours, with your tone mapping software.

Loads of detail and the fountain makes a good 'foreground'. The non-vertical verticals work for me, so no complaints there either. The HDR treatment has worked really well. Also nice to see it all lit up and without all the people that are usually milling around.

We werre in there at about 7:30, no one around really, just a few chavs passing through.

security guards are cooler in the evening - in the day they don't like tripod legs as people fall over them

Actually like the water on this one Ade!!! The combination of the w/a lens and the HDR technique has rendered this into an almost surreal image. Bit of a mind bender, worth more than just a casual glance!! Bill.
14 Feb 2007 2:08PM
Note to self. Dont do any more mods for Ade he dosent like them lol

they are kinda mad Colin, but I've missed most of them (never check them) so cheers!

I'll look out for them more often.

you like the cartoon end of HDR then - it's all wonderfully surreal

I know what you mean about a 17mm in a city! It is quite a challenge but the only way to get in a decent amount of coverage. I think it looks natural and not surreal at all.

Blimey Ade! Lights, mirrors, glass, movement, water! Is there nothing HDR can't handle!?

Good one, got the range I like and so glad you whacked that black to the right :o)
