These are 2 dance students I met today, Holly and Dan, they were after a photographer for their 3rd year projects and got my name, so as I was off I thought I'd give it a go.
It's a protest piece about being blinkered and restrained in their art, thes photos are going to form part of that in the performance,
This is in Chappel Allerton Graveyard, Leeds in the rain.
F3.2 @ 1/200th, ISO 400 and 135mm (ish)
A departure for me, but one I really enjoyed - given them lots of cards so may well get to photograph more arts students.
It's certainly a change from the dreary world of IT and banking I can tell you.
Off to kill me liver on the
EPZ North West Weekender number 5!!!!!!! now

Not bad at all fella!!
Different to what i imagined you were talking about anyway..
Like the point of fucus here ade it works well mate
Very imaginative, one can feel the tension in the characters.
Like this a lot.
very good work Ade, I'm sure they will be bangin' on ya door
I like this a lot, the DOF is wonderful, it's crisp and sharp and with lots of emotion.
I like it, well composed.
The photograph is great. Personally I think that the message would come across stronger if you turned the picture into B&W. The flowers on the foreground are getting the attention and contradicts (IMHO) the seriousness of the message that the students were trying to say.
When you covert the image (which is obviously very well taken) to B&W, or maybe even to a blue toned version, the sweetness of the flowers will be gone and the surroundings will strenghten the tension.
How do you feel about this idea?
great image - i'm sure these two were most happy with your photographic help.
i was inspired by jacqueline's words so uploaded a mod i did in ps - usually i would spend hours, days or weeks - i rushed this in about 45 mins - hope it is ok =)
peter "morpyre" turner
Different to your normal work but still quality photography, congrats on the EC btw.
Ade, this is an eye catcher even as a tumbnail. Beautiful work, I like it very much. Hope I didn't offend you with my stupid bletter yesterday.
this is quality ade,
its very different, bit i love it mate.
i bet they will be pleased with it.
well done pal
quite good. the dof is magic (especially those out of focus flowers in the fg)
I think only 15 votes for this is crazy next to some of the stuff I've seen with 50+ ... there's no accounting for taste. Good idea, well executed. I like Morpyre's mod too. Well deserved EC.
An image with bite and depth. Congratulations on the EC.
Well done on the shot & the ec
The dof is spot on and I like the limited colours. Well done on your EC. (Imagine the liver damage if you'd seen your EC before setting off!)
Cracking shot Ade
Good work Ade, this could lead to something, a change of pace as they say.
All the very best
Very original, congrats on the EC.
Certainly the toning down of the flowers in the mod by Peter presents an image that seems more in keeping with their ideals.
That said, unless the photo was well composed in the first place as this is, a simple desaturation would not have had such a strong impact on the message.
Certainly a departure from your normal work. Hope the future expectations of work materialise.
Blinkered our world is, Adrian. Ron.
I think this is fantastic.
Its a good 'un...well done on the EC...
Fantastic composition, perfect dof, not sure i get the whole protest thing, but then again they are students bless em. lol.
A thought provoking image . I really like the mod by Peter.
Just back from the NW weekender... just about alive
I knew this shot (of the 127 I took) was the outstanding shot of the shoot, so glad it's got the hallowed EC! Cheers Pete. Dan and Holly will be chuffed too, they were getting soaked to get these shots!
The edit is nicely done, thanks for taking time. It does give it a more closed in feel, a more oppressed outlook if you will.
I'll post some more from this shoot of course - in the mean time, I've got to unload the car... not often yo go to a photo meet with a piano!
I've got mono versions of the shots too - they are grittier, some with more grain added later, some very high contrast too.
This one is as natural as you'll get from me, converted with added contrast in CP1 and just framed in PS.
When I was taking this one, I was usign a little artistic liscence and trying to make it look ghostly in a way, by hiding their feet in the garlic flowers and having the cross between their heads
hopefully I'll be getting more jobs like this Get that portfolio growing away from trees at Malham eh?
I like the mono one from today and I like this one but it might be more impressive and tense in mono
Bet this was a welcome surprise on your return! Knew this one would look good on here when I saw them on the back of your camera at the weekend. Does the job just fine as it is I reckon.
congrats on the EC and the ever growing well deserved compliments =)
glad my mod of your image was appreciated =)
sounds like you had a good weekend away - what was the piano for - did you have elton john or barry manilow serenading the group on his piano while you all snapped away? lol =)
peter "morpyre" turner
THE PIANO WAS to add a bit of noise!
it's very quiet up there
I played an awful lot... and drank an awful lot too
that is a stunning picture.
Great photo! Are they at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance? (My daughter is a second year student there)
yeah - that's the one, in Chapel Town
I gave them lots of cards to hand out at college so may end up photographing her!
would have liked to see this BW interesting shot.
Great concept with this image and well executed! I dont know if you have meant this, but a past comment says that the flowers/bush are distracting, I dont think so. I think the cross in the background brings you attention right to the middle of the shot, and str8 to the models! Great in my opinion!!
