Very sunny up north for once so had a walk around the city centre at 3:30 to capture the low light and the shadpws it creates in built up areas.

I've walked past this street with the camera all set up and raring to go on numerous occaions, but never really noticed anything worth stopping for... but the Give Way triangle seemed to stand out more than normal today and had to be photographted

It's a HDR of 3 shots, though in the processing I pretty much dumped the rescued highlights as the pure white at the end looked better than some greyish clouds.

Stong graphic shots are my thing at the mo, using lines and perspective where ever I can. I think this one will jump out at you from the thumbnail, but will anyone actually like it?

Very striking perspective splendidly emphasised by that triangle. That contrasty graphic look works very well indeed here.

I had a good vibe about this one...

Cheers Pete, at last, my first Leeds architectural EC Smile

Di - version 2 is the unedited original, so it's not really there to be compared to the final result, but to show you where the shot started from.. so I'm glad you like number 1 best Smile

The signs on the street really contribute to making this an outstanding shot. I like the use of black and white and the bold tones.

I love the perspective and the dramatic-ness of this image.

I sat for ages just looking at it and it had a feeling power to it, that comes from the strong graphic lines.

Congrats on you EC, very well deserved.

Great shot - works well B&W - and well-spotted. The triangle lead in matched to the coverging buildings is great.

Presumably a one way street so you didn't have to watch your back for traffic?!

yeah - it's a one way street just off the headrow in Leeds. gets quite busy in the week as there's a multi story there, but after 4 on a sunday the place is nice and quiet.

Ade, I'll try and get to Focus on the Sunday if you're going then?

And yes I remembered the URL. Just need to remember to buy some lenses now Smile You've kind of inspired me with this shot, this is the kind of stuff I wouldn't mind doing at the moment. Get over here after work one day..

Cheers Bill - I seem to be developing a recogniseable style at last, well for the architecture stuff at least. Good of you to mention it Smile

I'll be at FOCUS with Stevebb on the sunday, coming from near by so will be there pretty early I'd guess. Thinking of buying a new synth so no plans to get anythning from the event other than a few oggles of models and stuff like that!

the 5D and 17-40 are less than £2K now - it's all you need for the crazy HDR stuff!

this shot wasn't even taken from that low either!
You have managed to take the quite ordinary and transform it to the extraordinary by the application of some clever darkroom work, to maximize the clever pov and angle.

Well done on the EC and yet another great image.

All the very best

Ade, what I like about this shot is the emptiness of the shot. It's rare to find a place this still, empty. I live in the country and find it hard to find a place so still and noiseless. The triangle and arrow, come on, you painted them on the road!
ade_mcfade 13 15.2k 216 England
28 Jul 2008 11:21AM
Nah - just curves, quite extreme curves, makes the tarmac really black and the lines jump out

I do it on most road markings!

most people spend ages cloning them out, I embrace then Wink
