Scaleber Force

By ade_mcfade
See mods for the 4 source files

As Bill Lee has been moaning about milky water on waterfall shots, I had a look back to a set from Scaleber Force near Settle, and found 4 JPGs that had not been HDR'd

To illustrate my point a little, about how long the old shutter needs to be in dark conditions, I'll put the 4 source shots in the mods, even the fastest (and virtually black) ones are milky - the conditions just dictated that..

I like the result, the water is milkyish, but not burned out, and I like the flow accross the shot from top left to bottom right...

Bill - do your worst Smile

Looks good from here, well done on the HC. I said much the same thing in the thread about the conditions governing the choice of shutter speed Smile

wow - milky rules then Smile

cheers everyone, a HC too Smile nice one.

ta for the mod Keith, see what you mean with the angle - did you go off the level bit of water at the foot of the falls, or use the falling water itself?

Ade I admire your skill with the camera and your HDR work is without parallel, in my experience so far, hence the click. Whilst I agree with everyone else about the quality and composition of this image I personally still cannot get with the water. I can see that in this image it was unavoidable and that our peers seem to be in unison in your praise ( Congratulations on the award by the way!) I hope you will forgive me for having an 'alternative' view. Bill.

Bill - it's amusing, not upsetting that you've got this stance mate Smile

go for it, we're all different! I've done thousands of waterfall shots and they've been everything from 1/8000th to 1 minute and my conclusion is that they are much of a muchnesss - the milky ones are more popular on many sites and with many people, but it's fine to have an alternative view Smile

My challenge is for you to get to this spot at scaleber force and get a none milky shot that's half decent....

actually getting to the spot where I took this is a challenge though!

That is quite a challenge! With the present state of my increasing weight and arthritic degeneration it might take me a while to get there and it sounds as though I would have to transport a van load of floodlights to achieve a result that I liked! Nil Desperandum ;o)

Think this is great Ade. Came to view it via the forum debate (I'll call it 'The Milky Way') and I'm really pleased to see HDR working with flowing water and using jpegs too. Great colours and a fab composition. I like the semi-skimmed variety Smile

I think this is fabulous, though I would have shot it portrait, and included more of the top fall- I 'll have to see if you have any more views posted, maybe there is a reason you chose this one...
