Winding Road

By Adrian_Reynolds
This is one of those scenes I like but probably I'm in a minority of one. Its a lonely place on the west side of the island. I love the way the road lifts and falls with the undulation of the land, dipping out of sight in parts and then appearing again. It runs for miles but you can only see a bit at a time. The place has an eerie remoteness.

No2 isn't infra-red its taken in the snow, slightly surreal I thought.

V1 for the going-round-the-bend feeling. I can relate to that...

Well, I certainly like it, Adrian. Very much the kind of road I love to drive, isolated and with corners in both planes (then what is a crest or a dip but a vertical corner, after all Smile) These days I don't even bother with speeding either......
Strong b&w, the clouds almost mimicking the sky; really like the composition.

I agree with your comments re. V 1, Adrian: the B and W presentation looks good too. And I do like V 2 with the solitary patch of red left on the road sign, and I notice in that shot that wind farms are springing up in Shetland too, inevitable I suppose given the prevailing weather conditions. The other thing which is interesting although not surprising is the landscape remarkably devoid of trees, again, I guess, for that same reason. A couple of excellent shots, giving a real taste of the terrain and a hint of local conditions.

We have these winding roads as well, tho not a devoid of traffic (also buggies here) much nicer than the interstates!

But, I actually prefer v2 as an image--desolate-lu descriptive of your patch of the world!

Thanks all for your comments on this desolate place.

Ronnie, the windfarm debate is in full swing up here about 50/50 for and against. Shetland is almost devoid of trees, just the odd clump here and there, thanks for interest.

Two lovely glimpses of where you live. I like both. Think it's all been said already so will just compliment you on such a good eye for a scene and leave my vote!

you always do mono so well and both of these are great, but the winding road in v1 has to be my favourite, I want to travel along the bends and curves and see what is beyond
