A Book of Enlightenment

By Aeros
My close friend Father blanco was a Jesuit. Spritually we were like brothers, but philisofocally we were the antithesis of each other, he the Jesuit and me the atheist. A good man, Hamilcar passed too soon, too young.

CC always welcome.

How does anyone reconcile a close friendship between a Jesuit and an atheist? "We all have to live with the ambiguaty of partial power, partial frdeedom and partiial knowledge. What do we know for sure anyway? "Quote from the book (If you meet the Budha on the road, Kill him.)

What if it is only, ever, about love?

Then, friendships can bridge any philosophical gulf.

This picture is a lovely tribute - it glows with more than light filtered through stained glass.

Close friend was a canon in the catholic church, I'm an atheist too. We had a lot in common, including fine wine and real ale. Religion was never mentioned. This is a fine picture by the way Richard.

I started to write individual responses to all who commented here, but as "The best laid plans of mice and men".....The rest you can guess, my comments got blasted into cyber space. I have to drive to the capital this a.m. to self represent at a trial and already I'm running late. I was so touched by the comments re this photo. I thank you all so much, I'm so pleased it resonated with you in the way I hoped it would. qosmio, thank you for your kind UA. I must say that your comments are of more value to me than awards. I should explain; The kindness and need for one to express their impression of a photo, by making an award, I completely understand. I would rather give or receive a well thought comment over an award, but you very generously gave both.

Thank you friends, one and all.

Dudler, I was out of time this a.m. and had to hit the road. I return to this post in order to express my feelings regarding your very thoughtful comments. I was touched and thank you for that. I had a very interesting day in court and will post about it on my blog.

Similar experience. I was educated in a convent school that had catastrophically over-expanded just as the local Catholic birth rate was falling, so the nuns were forced to admit heathens like me. They coped very well. They were strong, dynamic women. Some of my best friends have been nuns.
At University my tutor was a Jesuit, another very independent mind, one of the biggest influences on my life. I think it's about respect and embracing humanity's variety.
I like this a lot, by the way. It's respectful, the camera keeps its distance, doesn't intrude.
