The weight of the lens according to Sigma's Global site is 265g/ 9.3oz.

Checked it 'cause 140g seemed unbelievably light for an f1.4.

What is happening to Pentax, are they trying to go out of business?

The competition laps them and they come out with a blinking dslr?

On top of that although they shrink it down to minimum size, they bundle it with the out of proportion kit lens instead of a nice cheapo prime (DA35, DA40) which could justify the high RRP.

Come on Pentax, step up your game!

Spec-sheet comparisons can be very misleading.

From what I gather from people who have shooted both the NEX-6 and the A6000 they prefer the later viewfinder.

The positive feedback is mostly for the better refresh rate and the lower contrast. The lower contrast is very helpful at getting a feel of very dark areas that would previously be pitch black.

I have not shooted the A6000 yet but the above is what my impressions from users reviews have been so far.

Beautiful camera and I like they added two control dials.

However at 799, as Josa writes, it will probably be yet another Nikon 1 xmas clearance bargain.

Who on their mind would buy this, when you can get an Olympus OM-D EM10 for under 679 (built-in viewfinder, better sensor, and lens lineup) ?

Interesting proposition, a true niche product which as a non-Samsung shooter makes absolutely no sense to me.

Personally I would expect Samsung to offer first:

    1) A well priced 20-50mm f2.8, compact enough to match the NX bodies as a step up of the very good 20-50mm f3.5-5.6
    2) A 16ish-50mm f2.8 to attract potential buyers who chose competitors due to lack of fast mid-range zooms.

I am sure they know better their customers yet I don't understand where they are going with this business.

This Tokina-Pentax lens is HEAVILY overpriced to the point of being disgraceful.

The very same Tokina version (joinly developed with Pentax) costs ~ 450 on other mounts, making the Pentax version 70% more expensive!

I have no idea how many copies of this lens they sell but to my eyes it seems that, with the declining third party support, Pentax/Ricoh takes advantage of the defacto K-mount monopoly to use it ruthlessly against their customer-base. I just hope they will eventually learn the concepts of perceived value and price inelasticity and come to their senses.

The real weakness of this lens is that one can get the even sharper Tamron 90mm f2.8 for 150 less with a 5-year warranty.

If you are on a prime only setup, the 90mm can dub as your portrait lens too and makes an excellent pair with your normal-wide choice.

Beautiful camera and with the aggressive pricing a game changer. I think whether we like it or not these tools are the future.

Under 1,500 for a FF high quality cam with the SEL-2870 lens.

Btw a top of the line APS-C DSLR such as the Pentax K3 with a somewhat comparable Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 costs roughly the same.

    Pentax K3 + Sigma 17-50 f2.8 weights: ~1.3kg

    Sony A7r + SEL 28-70 f4 weights: 0.9 kg

I prefer a pentaprism too, but give it a couple of iterations to iron the few niggles (which with the rate of new models coming up shouldn't be long anyway), expand the lens lineup etc this looks like a very interesting system.

Glad to see Sigma taking a refreshing approach opting to reduce the long end in favor of smaller size and hopefully (slightly) improved IQ.

Although not a fun of this type of lenses I am looking forward for the review.
