The Arty Tree

By Alan_Coles
At 3pm this afternoon I was sat in this seat and looked out of the window...they look nice clouds I thought - just then the wife into the bedroom and said "thought you might have gone out this afternoon"...mmm, bag was packed and I was driving up the slush covered close about 1 minute later! Where to go I thought...aaaargh, not back over the moors thought I. Then I looked west and the cloud n light looked more promising in that direction. I was heading for the beach as I had not been there in ages...then I got to the Penderyn roundabout and before I could fathom why I was heading to Ystradfelte? The snow we had in Blaenau Gwent overnight didn't look like it had reached these parts I thought...drat, only the tops white. I then found myself up near Tom's "audi rally expedition" and I stopped at Maen Llia...only the stone was in shade from Fan Nedd Sad
As I headed back towards the village I stopped off at a pull in to have a drink and get my map out...then before I knew it I was heading up a track to find that "arty tree" - I knew it was "the tree" coz there was a tog there...who I wondered...nope it was not Rob unless he had aged from his pf picture! Turned out to be a very nice chap called Jeff/Geoff who lived not far from the village...yup, he knew Rob and is on epz but I can't for the life of me recall his user name. Was impressed with his camera though...a Hasselblad. He was kind enough to then pick up his gear and let me at the tree... couldn't find Rob's tripod holes so I used Jeff's !! Smile

PS It's called the Arty Tree because....???

Beautifully lit and composed Alan. You really have captured the bleakness of the Moor in winter.

Great light and composition!

Used a Hasselblad many years ago, never liked it as a Press camera, but it would be great in the landscape, the lenses are superb, and the medium format is excellent. Lighter than the digitals are now too.

Great side light on the tree, very Arty
