Baroque Reflections

By AlanBW
Something totally different from me and because of the unusual nature of the image, it might attract very little interest. But I like it and I wanted to include it my portfolio because it is so much different to any other image I have posted.

On one of Vienna's main shopping thoroughfares, Tricia and I decided to take a short break from our explorations. We found a table in the outside area of a Viennese coffee house, ordered as we sat down and soon our refreshments were brought to us. From this position we were able to watch the world go by. Two mime artistes were in close proximity and we observed their antics with great interest. Shoppers and business personnel scurried to and fro, people were giving out pamphlets, small stalls were selling their wares, tourists hovered around with cameras in hand and the general atmosphere was one of busy enjoyment.

In and around this street there were many magnificent buildings, including the beautiful cathedral that we had visited earlier. In contrast, there were also some very modern structures, such as the one opposite us. As I looked up at this cubic monstrosity with a predominance of glass, something caught my eye. Towards the top of the modern building, the glass panels had caught the reflection of the upper part of the coffee house, which was built in baroque style. The glass panels had distorted the reflection in a most curious and rather abstract fashion. An opportunity not to be missed! So, shooting hand-held on full zoom about thirty feet upwards - and right across the pedestrianised street, I captured the detail above, which shows an example of the fascinating distortions created by the glass panels. This was a very rare occasion when I was grateful for modern architecture.

Certainly worth posting: it was well seen and just shows that you can find interesting photos if you look aaround with tuned-in eyes.

Alan I think this works really well. At first glance it seems like one of those puzzles where you have to slide the squares around to arrange the picture properly!

Well spotted. Mike

I great addition to your portfolio Alan. Yes I'm always looking at the reflections of modern buildings. It's almost like they have no style of their own except in their reflection...

"This was a very rare occasion when I was grateful for modern architecture. "

Just had a quick look at your p/f. Two shots jumped out at me. This one and the Walt Disney Hall. I like this one best as there is much more to look at, loads of detail in the reflection.

Good composition and exposure resulting in an excellent image.
