Just Look This Way ------

By AlanBW
After being absent for quite a while, it is time to test the water with a new upload. Tricia and I got back from Thailand on Sunday after a lengthy stay in that magical country. This was our ninth visit - and by far the longest. God willing, it won't be our last.

Whilst there, we met lots of interesting people, including Judith (EPZ member Jaye) and her daughter Charlotte, who live in Australia. Judith contacted me through EPZ asking about places to visit in Bangkok and we exchanged several e-mails on the subject. When Judith and Charlotte arrived in February, we met up on three or four occasions during their short stay.

As regards the image above, it was captured at the massive Chatuchak Weekend Market in Bangkok, which we always enjoy for the sights, sounds and smells of market life. I was on the prowl looking for interesting characters when I spotted this fascinating lady sat on a low stool eating lunch in front of her stall. Her wonderful features and interesting dress style intrigued me immediately, but she was not an easy subject to capture. Fortunately I spotted a gap coming up in the crowd - she was across the road from me - so I set up the shot. As soon as the gap appeared, I 'coughed', she looked up to give me momentary eye contact and Click! This image was taken from waist level thanks to the tilting viewfinder on the camera. The lady looked at me for a couple of seconds as I continued to pretend that I was simply adjusting the camera, after which she totally ignored my presence and carried on with her lunch. I lingered a little longer just watching the world go by as I waited for Tricia, who was browsing a nearby stall. We then melted into the crowd, with the lady seemingly unaware that she had been captured on camera.

Wonderful story and another superb capture. I think I will have to invest in a Fuji just to get the tilting viewfinder. I always find it so difficult with my Nikon not to be noticed and the secret as you have shown is not to be noticed.
Best wishes
