Leave Me Alone, I'm Eating!

By AlanBW
Circumstances have conspired to prevent my participation on EPZ for a few weeks, not the least of which has been trying to put adequate support in place for Triciaís 80-year old mum, who has been diagnosed with Alzheimerís. We have made considerable progress, although it has been frustrating at times. Without question it has been time well spent, but I must confess to having missed EPZ!

I know that I must have missed thousands of superb uploads during my enforced absence but I hope to catch up with as many portfolios as possible over the coming days. There might have to be some clicking and running, so apologies in advance.

Here is a very rare animal shot from me, taken on a trip to Turkey - and the second time I have featured an image from a short series I managed to capture at the time. After visiting Ephasus, we went to the House of the Virgin Mary, a Christian shrine located seven km from SelÁuk. Many Christians and Muslims believe by that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was taken to this stone house by Saint John after the crucifixion of Jesus, fleeing the persecution of the Christians in Judea. Officially declared a shrine of the Roman Catholic Church in 1896, it has been visited by thousands every year since then. Pope Paul VI visited and confirmed its authenticity in 1967. Pope John Paul II also visited the shrine in 1979.

On leaving the shrine and heading for our coach, I heard a rustling sound overhead and saw a squirrel leap from one tree to another. I got the camera ready in case it should appear again. Suddenly it emerged and began devouring a fresh fig. I managed to capture five or six decent shots before a crowd gathered to see this cheeky and amusing little creature enjoying lunch.

This will probably be my final upload for 2007 as Tricia and I are due to take a long-planned trip overseas. Weíre going to be out of the UK for quite a while, but Iíll be taking my laptop with me so I should be able to look in on EPZ from time to time, although I doubt if Iíll be uploading from abroad. However, I do hope to bring back some images worthy of uploading to EPZ on our return, by which time it will be Spring.

My sincere thanks to all who have kindly voted for and commented on my efforts Ė and I know this is rather early, but I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone on EPZ a wonderful festive season and a happy, healthy, prosperous and successful 2008.

Wonderful story: terrificly clear picture, very endearing, and no wonder, figs are delicous. Like the way sqirrel is wrapped round the branch. Enjoyed both the story and the Picture.

Hope all goes well. Have a good journey.

Different to your usual uploads but none the less brilliant. well done.
Like you, I have been unable to upload for a while due to illness, but I am back in the swing of things now.

Hello Alan - Sorry to hear about Mum-in-law. I hope everything works out for the good.

This image is shocking! It is a full of life as your "human" kind images. I hope he did not get sick on that fig!! They can be extremely sweet - or bitter depending on where they are planted!

We all miss you!!! I hope Bangkok was a good trip!

You are one of the people on my "favorite" list. Forgive me if I do not make a comment every time I vote on your photos. I am so busy with the flying lately that I just do not have the time to make a sensible comment. This does not mean that I just "click" to give you a vote. Now and then I may surprise you with a written contribution!! Regards.
