Kilve Abstract 5

By alansdottir
Yet another rock abstract - had enough, yet? Smile

I just love the patterns in these rocks, caused by stress mineralisation... Blue Lias limestones and mudstones, and a red sandstone interloper...

Tech stuff: ISO 200; shutter 1/100 sec; aperture f/3; focal length 17 mm (but see lens); tripod.

Thanks for looking! Smile

Would look great as a large print on a wall.Excellent.

Agree with John. These get better and better. The patterns in the cobble make this, as does the red stone shying away in the darkness. All tightly framed by their neighbours, between the tides.

Was this place covered by glaciers?

-- fantastic pebbles you find!

Not glaciers, Jennn, and I don't think (though I'm not certain) that the most recent ice-sheet reached quite this far south. The beach material is all local, so far as I recall and all simply sea-tumbled. The limestone makes such beautiful rounded cobbles, often with calcite and other mineral veins, quite wonderful to find.

I like this but it's rather dark. I think it would have more impact if you adjusted the curves and also pumped up the saturation.

The natural look suits me fine. And in answer to your question, I don't ever seem to tire of these. You have chosen an excellent angle to shoot from, with the stripe diagonally, the tones and textures are perfectly distinguished.

Super colours and textures, very well spotted and taken. Another CG classic I think Smile

Excellent composition, and I love the dark, moody colours.
This could be manipulated to create a bright, colourful, probably rather 2-dimensional abstract, but that would be a totally different picture. Personally I'd stick with this.

I agree with Moira re the light and I for one love rocks and the multitude of colours and markings....not sick of them !!! The central rock reminds of a carved emu egg.

Lovely again, really good composition. And I love the depth of tone, too.
My mum lives in Somerset, and your recent shots from that part of the world make me realise I don't take my camera very often when we vist (red-faced with shame!). You're really making me want to get out there next visit! Thanks!
