Sea, sands and time...

By alansdottir
Back to Kilve beach for today's upload, though it was a return visit later in the week (love the place, see...)

The mudstones on this part of the beach are softer, more closely laminated and friable than the more massive limestones elsewhere. Each layer bears the signs of being laid down in shallow water at the edge of a silty sea, the ripple-marks and dimples fossilised in the slate-shale beds.

What struck me here was the juxtaposition of the ancient ripple-marks with the sunlit ripples I saw that day...

Rough textures and patterns gently kissed by saltwater.
A graphic combination of elements and time.

Even stone gets a wrinkle or two - everything ages! Lovely textures brought out beautifully in mono.

Thumbnail certainly doesn't do this justice. A fascinating study of the passage of time and the resulting textures and patterns.
