The Solitude of a Breathless Tide

By sherlob
A low tide and windless conditions led to a very still sea in Llandudno for a dawn shoot last weekend. The sunrise was just after 5am - the stillness added to the sense of solitude I felt as I picked may way through the rocks to the waters edge. The only sound was the haunting cries of the gulls - the still receding tide was silent. I've never seen such reflections in a pier before.

I love the way this drifts from pinks down into icy blues. I did actually check the date to be sure that wasn't ice in the foreground...
Stillness. But that strip of broken water under the pier, separating the structure from its reflection, is surreal.
Thanks for your comment re the reflections in my upload. I've posted a response - I tried and the building defeated me. There isn't a true right angle in it, everything slopes very slightly. Which doesn't half complicated reflections.

A truly great image, looking at it for awhile, how do you think it would look with the sun cloned out as i find that distracts me just a little. Keeps pulling my eye from the foreground and pier.

The sloping horizon might be contributing to that?

Hi Jules,

I'm not sure if you picked up from Moira's post that she was referring to the angles in her own image - not this one. I've just double checked this image in PS and the horizon is bang on.

Didn't need PS to check it, just scrolled the explorer window up so the bar was on the horizon. Def down at the right, unless my explorer window is on the hur

Thanks for all the kind comments.

Zippie: yes, graduated neutral density filters were used to balance the exposure between the sky and the fg. I'm afraid I didn't take note of what degree of filtration I used.
