Quote:Lovely detail and colours, is this how the shot came out of the camera or was there much work done to it?
    Matt

Pretty much straight out of camera - usual, levels, curves and a bit of sharpening for upload here, as they always look soft for some reason. Used a polariser, to slow the water and get the contast with the tree.
Thanks for the comments - much apprecaited.

Hi, I was stood in the very same spot 2 weeks ago - very difficult to get good foreground interest so i was trying a long exposure with a 10 stopper. There is some quite interesting black sand (unless the water level is up and covered it) and I had left a stick for foreground interest. Living round the corner at Draughton, so may see you there one day.
I think you have done great, getting some nice colours and a good view point/comp whilst avoiding the walk way on the right.
    Andy
ps - I'll load it tomorrow - it's not great but shows what a variance a few feet and different exposures can make.

Hi Helena, thanks for your comment on my shot!
I'm no expert, but a couple of things to maybe think about... rotate it so that the verticals of the buildings are in line with the verticals in the reflection.
I've just done an adjustment but can't upload it - if you click on modification then people can do varaitions for you - I've found it really helpful for some of my shots!
Next, maybe try curves to give the image more depth and contrast. also a bit of dodging/burning to pull out selective areas like the foreground cobbles and wall. There is an add on for photoshop called silver efex pro - which can really bring the best out in mono.
The shot has a great lead in and nice reflections and is a good subject matter for mono!
Anyhow, just a few ideas - don't know if they are helpful or not...
    all the best
