Basil is the heart and soul of Italian cooking. Every month or so I pick up a new plant at the market. I much prefer fresh basil, and these small plants come in a plastic pot that provides nourishment to the plant for at least three months. Long before that time expires, the plant has been harvested enough so that there is almost nothing left.
I've been photographing these plants for several weeks trying to get the image that makes me feel that it shows basil growing and thriving. This picture is the first shot that expresses what I was looking for.
