In Pasadena where there is lots of old money, Too much bling is considered tacky. However, the one area where trash with flash is encouraged is luxury cars. On any given day, I see dozens of Porches, ten or fifteen Bentleys, one or two Aston Martins, and a sprinkling of Ferrari's.
Having been lucky enough as a young man to have worked as an assistant to the top two car photographers in the world, I have a lot of valuable skills. Mickey McGuire is the biggest man in the business, literally. At 7'4", Mickey was an imposing figure. Famous for his high standards, and quick temper. Gil Smith was a child actor, and fell into the world of heavy metal, which is what car photography is called by professionals. I learned enough to be able to do a few things to take my car picture from bad to a little bit better. I have good memories of car shoots that lasted ten days for twenty two hours a day. More than one assistant slept behind the wheel of a quarter million dollar car. I did.
