Pigeons and solar flare
I have put a few fire smoke pictures up on this gallery. Mostly, they show a sky filled with ragged smoke clouds of brush fires miles away. This is different. That day besides the fire, there were solar flares. The smoke darkened the disc of the sun enough to actually see the flares with the naked eyes, not safe on clearer days. The high speed wind stirred the smoke into a solid color. The birds seemed to know something was wrong, but weren't sure what it was. Most of them stayed on the light pole for hours with one or two flying from pole to pole. The sun set over a strange landscape.
