DIY mini softbox

12 Jan 2013 6:18PM   Views : 613 Unique : 465

Cant afford a lightbox, need one for my little slave flash, but their all a bit small for the job and the bigger ones cost silly money!

So, time to get all Blue Peter i think.

One box of Mini Rolls, devoured one by one until box is empty.

Cut a hole in one side of the box for flash to fit in.

Add tin foil, then cover with white plastic bag.

Finito.

My flash has no tilting available, but this box is wonky, allowing light to spill slightly downwards and not so flatly. It actually works pretty well, i had made one before when i shot Viktoria at Upwood one night, t'was the shoot where i used coloured gels as well as a modified lightbox. Though the flash used then was that Sigma Ef 500 DG-ST, on camera, eeeeeeek!

The bag was a long thin one, the kind used to ferry about christmas wrapping paper in, just the right size, with a small hole for the flash to fit into. At the moment it is still flashing, what it will be like at a longer distance i do not know.

I had a little test with Poppy and Pebbles, the results were pretty good, so i shall nip out shortly after dinner, go to HM, then do a bit of shooting with the new modification and see what it can do. I am hopeful Grin
