Kerb Crawlers

By AlexandraSD
It seems some folk completely miss the camera stuck on a tripod, as well as the bright light on a light stand...

So, this was the rather seedier parts of a certain town on the Humber, and the other night i drove up with the intention of taking some self portraits among the run down, industrial area of the docks. We have docks in my town but as far as i am aware, there is no prostitution going on here, not so with this Humberside town.

So it is fair to say that this was one of my more risky shoots. I did feel a bit uneasy, you can see it on my face! The kerb crawlers were certainly out in force too, as well as young girls on street corners, who really did not look like they were old enough to be there in the first place.

That being said, there is something about a run down, almost derelict looking industrial road with sickly street lighting and the smell of fish in the air. And i dont even eat fish!

10 out of 10 for bottle, but I do prefer yesterdays. I think maybe it's because you are so brightly lit in this one, but I really am no expert to judge!!!Smile

I reckon you either deserve a medal for bravery, Lexi, or your head examined.Wink Aren't you ever afraid someone on a moped might snatch your camera?

Like Dave, I prefer the more mysterious portrait form yesterday, partially hidden by the shadows. This is more 'here am I!'

You've got some bottle, Lexi.
Whenever I see these pics I start humming Lou Reed. Smile

Another well set up and taken shot. Not the mystery of yesterdays but certainly has the mood.

Previous image was lit using ambient lighting, todays upload has controlled lighting, ie i set up a light and stood near it, as opposed to standing near an ambient light source. Both were taken just meters apart, but like you, i kinda prefer the previous image, it tells more of a story plus it does look better!

Oh i was very aware of my surroundings, i really had my wits about me that evening, i knew there were youths on bikes with no lights in the area, they kept popping up, but i did keep close to my car in case, plus it could have triggered some girls into thinking i was competition, angry pimps etc... the kerb crawlers actually made me feel safer in a weird kind of way!

I probably am a bit too confident at times, but it works in my favour Smile

Very brave indeed: not an area that I'd feel safe in with a camera... Or at all, really, without a few mates in tow.
