I think it is a really excellent composition and effective use of space, colour and composition to emphasise the subject.. and I like the way the rose has been lit..

I'm a great fan of empty space as some of my pictures will show, although admittedly this poor little soul does look a tiny bit lost. Also I really want to shift it over to the left hand side of the frame for some reason!
That aside it's a good start and long may you continue to subject flowers to all sorts of treatments to get the perfect picture - I abuse mine horribly

As you can see from my portfolio, I am a sucker for the black backgrounds and space, but on this occasion I think the rose is outstripped by too much black. Don't get me wrong, excellent first attempt. After all, the rose itself looks very good with very effective lighting.

A different approach to composition.I like the Rose against the bg & I like the idea of emptiness around it.I just feel there is a bit too much black & the subject is a little small as a result.This may look better with a frame around it to hold in the colour,as I think the idea is well worth persuing.

great idea and well presented. the composition is nice and the lighting is also very effective. i have to agree that there may be just a tad too much black space, and could do with being cut down and held in with a border. i do like this a lot though despite that
