I typically steer clear from HDR myself but it's opening up some new options with pictures that would be either too dull or too bright in some areas - using it subtly (and in this case, a tad more subtly) would be a better option I guess, point taken. In this one I like the vibrancy in the colours and stuck with it. My photography tutor, referring to HDR, asked us one thing - if you had a choice between hanging this picture or a more natural looking picture, (read over/underexposed in some areas), which one would you hang?
Regardless - I will try upload a modification that is not HDR and only has some shadow/highlight editing using Canon's RAW editor.
As regards signing - yeah I noticed that a lot in other posts, but I like signing my work in a corner - just to ensure the name shows. It is after all a work for critique not for competition purposes.

When I look at it that way, I think that your tutor makes good sense.
Given the choice, I'd certainly go for this one; perhaps toned down a nudge but it's a very good point.

I dont find a whole lot wrong with it. A little ober HDR'd perhaps, but good detail in the boat, and a good oberall exposure.
What I do think is that there too much space on the right, - I know you were after the rope, but youre perhaps better confining the composition to a 10 X 8 aspect ratio, and rather than having the rope exit the frame, let it drop below the waves.
Its a little oversaturated, - and a slight colour balance shift makes a difference. I have calibrated the black and white points in the mod. The original black contained a bias towards blue.

Assume the HDR was by processing a single file three ways. I would have deleted an image with incorrect exposure which could not be corrected, no danger of hanging it. I do not like HDR much, but I actually didn't know this was HDR until I read your comments! That is a true accolade from me.
A nice shot of high quality. Prefer v1. I find it very nice but everyone to there own, subjectively. I would this not hang ir, but that really is personal preference.

Thanks Paul - this is an HDR made with three variants of the same picture, one underexposed, one mid-ground and one overexposed to bring out detail in shadows and highlights properly in the HDR merge. The fact that you didn't realise it was HDR is truly a good thing as I too don't like it when the HDR treatment shows up a lot.
In this case though, I think one could (and indeed some did) in fact pick up the HDR element from the over saturated colours. In fact, I was in agreement with the others who commented that said there was a bit too much saturation...that did come from overdoing it while giving it the HDR treatment.
