Bubble Blower

By AlleyCatz
Good afternoon...and the sun IS shining here! Smile

A shot taken of my son....with his big and small love bubbles. Like the contrast between the harshness of the derelict street and a young boy and his bubble blowing.

Thanks for stopping by Smile

Converted and tweaked in PS

C&C welcome

LOL... Another close call! I hit upload instantly when the 999,999 came up but there was a long delay uploading. Too many miles I suppose..

I like how sharp it all is inclusing the bubbles. Super-realistic.

Fantastic capture. Well composed with great tonal range. I love the background as it adds great contrast to the child blowing the bubbles. Well done. Very impressed.

Looks like it was taken in the 1960's ..... sort of a timeless feel (and appeal) to this Alley. Clever to leave a hint of colour in the bubbles too.

12 bubbles ...... what's my prize ???

Thanks everyone... Smile

Dave: As much I would love to give you a prize (large bottle of cheepo fino) there are not 12!

The street it was taken on... had all but one house boarded up...and just one family only living on that street. I went with a fellow photographer....and we had hoped for rain, puddles and a moody dark sky....but alas...the one day we wanted that ...we got sun and lots of it!!!!!

Look again MrU Wink

This is a fine piece of work, Alley. It's a strong comp with the figure, the caravan and the vanishing point of the road providing a triangular shape. The mono conversion gives it a 50's reportage feeling.

That looks a great street Alison.I like the bubbles & I think the image could have stood a few more, closer to Seth as he blows them.
Nice tones & well composed.

This is rather special, I love the gritty feel, reminds me of one of those 60's films. The hint of colour in the bubbles is brilliant. One for the shortlist.

I counted 14 but some were stuck together. But a super image. Really looks old - no cars, no road markings, no road signs, just a kid and his bubbles. Lovely.

Well I had a look at the original file....and counting bubbles stuck together there is 16!

Sorry Andre I thought you were right Sad

Thanks for that Chris...and making me check again Smile

Janet: Boy did we try to get bubbles near him....more than several times....believe me....but it just was not happening!

There is another street that runs parallel to this one....and is the same but a dead end....again all the houses boarded up and only one family living in the street. When we went to have a look they were all out in the street like a having a party/pinic with music blasting.....there was some great shots to be had there....but by the way they were all looking at photos would of been taken!

I'm not going to count your bubbles again. No ways.
19 Sep 2008 2:20AM
good photo, some how have a problem with the toned bubbles, why not have them in black & white like the rest?
19 Sep 2008 3:40AM
good photo. b&w suits the environment that is being showed. the caravan adds a lot. Robert is right though. the coloured bubbles go against the feel of the image.

Little Sausage: Are you sure you have seen this street before Wink

Brian: I thought there were 13 at first but under closer scrutiny there are 16 in there floating. Did you see the little tiny one near the telegraph wire next to the second chimney? Smile

Robert & Koen: The bubbles looked a little flat and lost in b& just brought thier colour through a little.

Timeless image Alison.

I remember working down them streets 30+ years ago. They've not changed at all, except then the streets always seemed to be full of dogs, of all breeds!

What a great 'step back in time'... it does feel like an image from 'the past', the street is empty and kids always sat on doorsteps playing/chatting and having fun (no nintendos!!). Makes for a great portrait of your son and I love those bubbles.... great mono image.
