Me and My Kit

Quote: Nice to see an "action" photo Alliec. Are those stofens or home made items on the flash heads for holding your diffusion material?

Alliec out of interest regarding your apeture settings for the various magnifications, what do you normally use?

I've found with mine I migh be using one stop too high as I tend to go more for DoF but this sacrifices sharpness. What I use is 1x F16, 2x F13, 3X F11, 4x F10 and for 5x (Which I hardly do) about f8.

Good to have you active on epz btw.

Hi John,

The diffusers are homemade from cardboard and clear perspex which has been sanded to make them opaque. Im considering adding some gold covered metal to warm the light up some. I sometimes use a gold reflector when shooting with natural light to warm up the light and help get the shutter speeds up.

I find its very much a personal choice as there has to be some trade off between DOF and Sharpness. If im focus stacking i will shoot around f11 at x1, and around f5.6 at x5 if maximum sharpness/DOF is what im after. If im shooting active insects i will tend to shoot between f13 and f10 for the various magnafications and pick and compositions that make use of the limited DOF. I rarley go above f13 as i find the trade of between DOF and sharpness to be too much for me.

fly on the wallpaperFantastic shot with great detail. I Presume this is a focus stack? Looks like some duplicated hair on the top of its head, this is easily fixed in PS using the healing brush tool and healing from one of the original shots back onto the stacked image. Hope that makes sense. Smile
