Mr & Mrs Snipe.

By Maiwand
The Snipe (gallinago gallinago)
It is a well camouflaged bird, it is usually shy and conceals itself close to ground vegetation and flushes only when approached closely. When flushed, they utter a sharp note that sounds like scape, scape and fly off in a series of aerial zig-zags to confuse predators. They forage in soft mud, probing or picking up food by sight. They mainly eat insects and earthworms, also some plant material.
I caught this pair in a shaft of sunlight standing there like an old couple nattering. Quite liked the reflection also.
Most grateful and appreciative for the generous reception given to the Long Tailed Lemur and particular thanks to Steve (sparrowhawk) and Garth (vanilla penguin) for the UA's.

Ron

never seen one before, great capture Ron.

In the hospital, they have a series of photos taken around twenty years ago..one of them is of a snipe hunt, with one guy in a beret & plus fours , the beret with a snipe featehr in it.
..... people who like to shoot things it seems will shoot anything.... can;t see why people would hunt snipe?
..they are all Dorset photos.
